My Great-Grandparents
Jean-Pierre Leyder and his wife, Elisabeth Leyder-Beiches.   They had ten children but it is sobering to know that they lost one son at birth, a daughter at 2 months, and three other daughters at 11, 12 and 13 years of age.   Another son died at 18 of pneumonia .   Elisabeth also outlived her 3rd son , François, (my Grandfather), who died aged 40.

My Grandparents
François Leyder and his first wife, Anna Leyder-Reis.  My father was the eldest of their five children.   Sadly, Anna died when my father was just seven years old.

My Great Uncle and his English Wife
Charles Nicolas Leyder and his wife, Elisabeth Leyder-Field, took in my father, Marcel Leyder, when his mother, Anna Reis, died when he was 7 years old.   He is probably ten or eleven in this photograph.

My Parents in Later Life
The picture of my father dates to 1974 - when he was 85 years old.   My mother's picture was taken much earlier, probably in the mid 1950s.

My Sister Pauline
She loved animals and, at one time, bred, showed and judged Afghan Hounds.   She rescued an old horse and took in countless injured birds, baby rabbits and a three-legged field vole.  But, above all, she cared for our mother with supreme love and kindness and never complained of her own ill health.   It was a terrible blow to the whole family when she collapsed suddenly and died aged 57.   She will always be missed.
